Shelby County Mayor Mark Luttrell could not have been clearer when he told us:
“The continued future growth of our community rests on the backs of our young professionals."
In that spirit, we've found 10 shining examples of dynamic professionals under 40 who have made Memphis their home and are pursuing innovative and creative careers, working in the community and relentlessly pushing this city toward greatness.
Earlier this year Mayor Luttrell created an advisory council to study ways to retain and attract more young professionals. This reflects the priority he places on making sure the region's future remains bright.
"Whether they contribute artistically, economically, or politically, the manner in which they progress will have a major impact," Luttrell said. "In order to ensure they are ready for the task, I firmly believe we must do everything we can to cultivate and retain the young professionals we already have, and we must work diligently to attract new members of this group from other communities.”
