"When I was about 9 or 10 years old, I made up my mind I'd do what my Dad did."
His Dad, the legendary record producer and arranger Willie Mitchell, gave Boo priceless guidance in the music industry and now the son has taken over his late father's Royal Recording Studio.
"I love engineering and producing," he said. "I started picking my dad's brain because when you're
close to the fire, you don't always realize how hot it is and how good it is. I had this man with all
this knowledge and wisdom and I knew I should extract as much as I could."
Under Willie's tutelage, Boo worked on albums for Buddy Guy and John Meyer. "My graduation as the Solomon Burke album 'Nothing's Impossible'," he said, a bittersweet project in that both his father and Burke died last year. But working on the Burke album with his father gave Boo an awakening, the knowledge that the passion had been rekindled and now he could do this by himself.
"Royal is famous for doing legendary recordings and that's what we plan on doing," Boo said. "We have some projects coming up where we'll be doing legendary recordings with legendary musicians and artists."
