Last night at the new Playhouse on the Square, over 300 people attended the launch of The Soundtrack Project which was accompanied by members of the Memphis Symphony Orchestra. The Soundtrack Project, underwritten by Duncan-Williams, Inc. of Memphis, consists of eight movements which feature eight unique Memphis entrepreneurs who tell their stories in their own words along with original compositions fashioned especially for them.
In the program, Mayor A C Wharton, Jr. states, “Our city’s arts and economic sectors are closely intertwined. Tonight we celebrate that powerful and mutually rewarding relationship. Both require people who are creative, quick-thinking, hard working and independent. Both require a passion for creativity and an appetite for risk. Both are critical to moving our city forward.”
John Duncan, the Vice President of Member Development at the Greater Memphis Chamber welcomed everyone to the event and introduced Erik Jambor, the Executive Director of Indie Memphis Film Festival who reminded everyone that the Film Festival begins at the Playhouse the very next day.
Darel Snodgrass, the classical music host for WKNO-FM next introduced Movement One: “A Tangible Birthplace” which features Chuck Skypeck, the owner of Ghost River Brewing Company. Next up was Movement Two: “Grooming the Dog” which shows Mathis Young who left his job as a banker to start his own dog grooming business. The video of a dog getting a bath was a definite crowd-pleaser.
A total of eight movements were shown last night, including Movement Six: “The Spider’s Web” which features Pat Kerr Tigrett and her international fashion business. After all eight movements, John Duncan thanked the Memphis Symphony Orchestra musicians, the entrepreneurs featured in the movements and the Soundtrack Project’s sponsor, Duncan-Williams. Duncan also thanked John Hubbell, the Creative Project Manager for the Greater Memphis Chamber who wrote and co-produced The Soundtrack Project as well as co-producer and photographer, Lance Murphey.
Everyone enjoyed the refreshments in the lobby which included beer from Ghost River Brewing Company. Attendees received The Soundtrack Project movie posters which were signed by the featured entrepreneurs.
