'Hotelier of the Year' Finds Home in Memphis

Memphis has plenty of boosters, but you’ll be hard-pressed to find one more enthusiastic than Doug Browne. As president of the Peabody Hotel Group, a subsidiary of Belz Enterprises, Browne has been running the South’s Grand Hotel for the 14 years he’s been in the city and he’s clearly good at it. Last year, he received the “Hotelier of the Year” award by the Historic Hotels of America, a tribute to his love for and dedication to The Peabody. Lehman Roberts Executive Falls for a City of Generosity

He planned to serve humanity by becoming a doctor, but 45-year-old Patrick Nelson’s life took a turn on the freeway of life. He got a job with a roadway construction company in 1993, and he never looked back. In the few short years after arriving in Memphis to study biology, he’d fallen in love with a city, a woman and an industry. Nelson is now President of Lehman-Roberts, one of the region's most significant producers of asphalt.

Entrepreneurs Prove Memphis is the Best City for Startup Success: Ivy Mediation

LaMeka founded Ivy Mediation early this year. She works with civil, labor and domestic cases to help resolve conflict. As a “Rule 31 Mediator,” she participates in court-ordered conflict resolution for parties in divorces, for example, and she does volunteer work in mediation. In workplaces, she likes bridging the gap between managers and employees. Ivy Mediation’s services include conflict resolution training, harassment prevention and customer service training.
