Memphis Means Music and Music Means Business
Music is one of Memphis’s few unique, globally respected assets and is the primary reason our city is recognized throughout the world, past – present and future. In 1973, Memphis was the fourth leading recording center in the world and the music industry was the third largest employer in the city of Memphis contributing $185,000,000 to the Memphis economy. While the Memphis music industry today has declined as a commercial and creative presence in the music world, the Memphis music legacy is still thriving.
